Reflecting back on the school year that just ended.... this was by far the BEST thing that I did!
This tool is useful in so very many ways but to name a few:
1. Quick reference guide to see when you planned specific content.
2. Shared with my team so we could all stay on the same page.
3. Prepare for upcoming content in advance and be organized and ready.
4. Share with other resource teachers for content support and connections with specials.
5. Teach more effectively, spend more time where needed and move quicker on other topics.
6. Time content with relevant dates and holidays.
7. Make sure you are getting to everything you should be.
This planner helped me wrap my mind around all the content that I teach, see it in an organized framework, and helped me communicate to others with a quick visual. If you haven't tried using a pacing guide, maybe it is time to start??
The link above is MY 1st Grade pacing guide complete with all the content I will be teaching but it is in an editable PPT so it can easily be adjusted, moved around, or simply used as a guide while you use the included blank templates to plan for your year. I further broke down the content month-by-month and subject-by-subject.
I would lOVE to hear how you use pacing guides in your classroom and school. What are advantages you have experienced by using them?
